Swine flu is an acute and highly contagious respiratory disease that infects Pigs. It is mainly caused by type-a influenza which often outbreaks among pigs and can cause serious illness but it is not always fatal. Swine flu is similar to human flu and the infection keeps on changing. it does not easily transmit from pigs to humans unless they are in close contact with them. There have been cases in which this infection spreads among humans just like seasonal flu. The current epidemic that is prevailing is also a similar one. It is being transferred from human-to-human. The world health organization has reported that the swine flu, which is an H1N1 strain, is a new version of the influenza type a. it is the same strain that causes regular influenza outbreaks in humans. But, this virus is not as dangerous as other types.
Studies have shown that this virus is different from the influenza virus that is usually found in pigs. it has been named as “swine flu” because it has been found that it contains some genes that are usually found in influenza viruses that spread among pigs. According to genetic detail of the current virus-outbreak, it generally spreads among humans, birds and swine.
